2723 Monroe Street is a charming house in the popular Shandon area. This home is a newly renovated home featuring fresh paint, refinished hardwood floors, new light fixtures, and an updated fireplace with black marble tile and an elegant mantle. The bathroom has received a face lift with a new sink, faucet, cabinet and toilet. The backyard is very large and re-landscaped with new sod. A closet in the hallway has been expanded and now houses the washer and dryer, which were previously in the kitchen. And the most noticeable update is the gorgeous kitchen. The kitchen now features beautiful Travertine tile floors, custom cabinets, granite counter tops, Travertine tile back splash, and stainless steel appliances.
This house is located just minutes from downtown Columbia, and lots of great activities. Downtown Columbia is home to 5 Points and the Vista, which feature great shopping and restaurants, as well as the large 14 acre Finaly Park and the very scenic Riverfront Park. The sports enthusiasts can enjoy the many athletic events going on at the University of South Carolina, which is located downtown. One can also enjoy performances at the Colonial Life Arena, the Koger Center, or the Township Auditorium. Also located downtown are the South Carolina State Museum, EdVenture Children’s Museum, the Columbia Museum of Art, the Riverbanks Zoo, as well as the Botanical Gardens. About 15 minutes north of downtown is Lake Murray, a 50,000 acre lake. Of course, with Columbia at the heart of South Carolina, one is only a short drive to the mountains or the beach!

Renovation of 2723 Monroe St. – Update #2
September 3, 2010 by themathercompany

Hey everyone, just wanted to give a quick update on the renovation of Monroe Street! (For those of you who missed “Update #1″, then click this link to read about it.)
So here’s the latest:
- The painting of the inside of the house is going well. Most rooms have gotten at least 1 coat.
- We attacked the kitchen on day 1 by getting the cabinets and carpet (yes, there was carpet in the kitchen!) out. The new custom cabinets are about 1/2 way done, and the floor has been tiled with a beautiful Travertine tile. I think the appliances are arriving this Thursday for installation.
- The fireplace has gotten a face lift with black marble tile and an elegant mantle.
- The bathroom has a new light fixture and a new toilet, and some time today will have a new sink and cabinet installed.
- The closet in the hallway has been expanded, and the plumbing and electrical wiring have been run to the new location for the washer and dryer. All it needs now is paint, doors and the washer and dyer!
- Finally, the jungle in the backyard has been tamed! And, the plan is, starting tomorrow the backyard will be tilled, and new sod will be laid.
Unfortunately, I don’t have my camera with me, so the pictures I have currently are not the latest. But you’ll get an idea of some of the things that have taken place!
