FBI Warns of New Real Estate, Rental Scam in SC

We here at The Mather Company have experienced this first hand and want to make sure everyone is aware of this. We have had multiple instances of someone taking our rental properties that we manage and advertising them as their own. This perpetrator usually advertises our properties as their own, and at a much reduced price versus the actual monthly rent. They also ask tenants to send them a payment (usually the “1st month’s rent”) as a down payment to secure the property. It is absolutely essential to do your homework and ensure that what you are looking at is legit. A real estate ownership interest, whether a personal residence or rental property, that increases one’s net wealth by a fair rate of return on their invested cash equity; for the corresponding amount of risk they are taking by owning a relatively high risk asset.
