Tip For Sellers: Making Your Home Appealing On A Budget

If you’ve ever sold a home, or are currently in the process of selling your home, or are seriously considering it, one thing you probably already know, or will learn really fast, is how important it is to make your home more appealing than the rest out there. But how can you go about doing that, without breaking the bank? Well Phoebe Chongchua, from Realty Times, offered some great tips in an article entitled ‘Making Your Home Appealing On A Budget‘.

1) Her first tip is for the kitchen. She notes that “chipped cabinets with peeling paint are unsightly…A new paint job for the kitchen walls and cabinets can give the whole area an updated look and make the kitchen area inviting even to those who rarely use it!” She also points out how much a difference changing out cabinet handles will make.

2) Her second tip is to focus on the “highly trafficked areas [such as] doorways, hallways, the lower part of walls, and baseboard trim”, by cleaning and repainting those areas.

3) Her third tip is for those small spaces. According to the Star Tribune, if you move furniture 1.5 or 2 feet away from the wall, it can actually make a room seem larger. Because when you place furniture up against the wall, it actually makes a room appear more crammed.

4) Curb appeal is important, and that’s her fourth point. Don’t forget about mowing the lawn and watering the plants. Brown grass and wilted flowers can deter a potential buyer more than one may realize, whereas green grass and colorful flowers are very inviting. If you don’t have flowers and plants, then consider getting some.

5) Her fifth tip is to “grout your way into the buyer’s heart. Yes, the fine lines do matter.” Look at the tiles and tubs in your bathrooms, and clean out any soak-scum and mold, and even re-grout if necessary.

6) Her last tip is this: “see your own home the way you would survey a home that you’d like to buy – that’s typically with a very critical eye. Then fix it.”
